Cost & time breakdown

Where the $1,000+ and 30+ hours come from

Figures below are conservative estimates from typical public list/street prices (promotions change). MPlan is a planning software only. It does not replace UWorld, AAMC, or any course's test content. It sequences the materials you already choose to buy.

Path A: Buy a full course for the schedule

Major self-paced packages typically include AAMC access plus that vendor's FLs, books, and QBank. They almost never include UWorld. Students who still want UWorld pay for the course and UWorld.

ProviderTypical packageList / sticker
KaplanSelf-paced / on-demand course (typical list)AAMC materials, Kaplan FLs, books, Kaplan QBank. Not UWorld.~$1,600+
BlueprintSelf-paced course (typical sticker)AAMC materials, Blueprint FLs, books/QBank. Not UWorld.~$1,700+
Princeton ReviewSelf-paced course (6–12 mo)AAMC materials, TPR FLs, books, QBank. Not UWorld.~$1,600+
AltiusCourse / mentoring-class stickerAAMC materials + Altius schedule/support. Not UWorld.~$2,000+
+ UWorld QBankAdd-on most course buyers still purchase separately+~$339

Example stack: Kaplan-class course ~$1,599 + UWorld ~$339 ≈ ~$1,940.

Path B: Buy core components + MPlan

Same studying stack many high scorers use, without paying a single-vendor course primarily for its built-in schedule.

ComponentWhat you getEstimate
UWorld MCAT QBankStandalone QBank (from ~$339; longer access higher)~$339+
AAMC Official Prep BundleOnline-Only Bundle: official FLs, Section Banks, QPacks~$324
Kaplan 7-Book Subject ReviewBooks-only content set (street ~$200; list higher)~$200
Third-party full-lengths (optional)e.g. Blueprint FL practice packs, if you want extras beyond AAMCfrom ~$159
MPlanAdaptive cross-provider schedule engine (3–12 mo tiers)$35–$75
Path B totalUWorld + AAMC + Kaplan books + MPlan (optional FLs not included)~$900–$940
~$1,000+ savings: Kaplan self-paced (~$1,599) plus UWorld (~$339) is about $1,940. Path B totals about $900–$940. That's roughly $1,000 less, before any sales or optional full-lengths.

Hours: baseline admin overhead

The 30+ hours stated on the front page come from these three buckets (about 37–54+ hours total of schedule management, not studying).

BucketHours
Schedule construction & template setup

Building a 3–6 month calendar from scratch: mapping resources, daily counts, and formulas.

8–12h
Weekly maintenance & rescheduling

~1.5-2 hours weekly spent redoing, fixing, or re-balancing static plans.

24–32h
Resource alignment & cross-referencing

Matching QBank topics to book chapters across providers.

5–10h
Baseline total37–54+h

Hours: how waste can run much higher

Plan inefficiencies can push wasted time well past 30 hours.

50–100+hPassive over-studying & content decay

Weeks of reading before practice, then re-reading early chapters when material decays.

20–40+hRe-build cycles after major disruptions

Throwing out a broken spreadsheet and rebuilding from scratch, often more than once.

15–30hIndecision & study-session friction

Time spent each session deciding what to cover instead of starting the work.
